HYGIENE THERAPY

Comprehensive Oral Examination

A comprehensive dental exam will be performed at your initial visit. This detailed exam consists of digital imaging x-rays, oral cancer screening exam, gum disease evaluation, and an evaluation of existing restorations. The presence of tooth decay will also be noted. The doctor will review your medical history, x-rays, and periodontal health status. Then will discuss your treatment needs and options.

Perio Protect- Fight chronic gum disease and improve your health by using an ADA approved tray and specific medicine to control the buildup of gum-disease-causing bacteria.

Oral Cancer Screening Exam

This exam will be performed at every dental check-up visit. It includes examining and palpating the external and internal oral soft and hard tissues such as the lips, gums, over and under the tongue, the roof of the mouth, and detecting any changes in color or texture, looking for any tender spots, lumps or bumps inside the tissues. When a suspicious lesion is detected, a simple brush biopsy exam is performed. This exam will be sent to a laboratory to be reviewed by a pathologist, to determine if there are cancerous or malignant changes in the cells. This histo-pathological analysis is painless and does not require anesthesia.

Periodontal Treatment (Deep Cleaning)

It is also called Scaling and Root Planning. A type of cleaning that removes plaque and calculus from the teeth at and slightly below the gum line. Root planning smoothes root surfaces, so the gum can better reattach to the root surface. Often, this will be done with local anesthesia, so you can relax and be pain-free as we rehabilitate your gums. At the end of the deep cleaning, we will demonstrate how to correctly brush and floss to maintain your teeth and gums healthy till your next periodontal maintenance appointment.

Local Antibiotics: ARESTIN or ATRIDOX are adjunctive treatments to scaling and root planning by applying antibiotic directly to the infected areas. It is usually delivered with a skinny plastic tip (needle-free syringe) to the deepest site of infection. An antibacterial rinse may also be prescribed to help eliminate the harmful bacteria.

PREVENTATVIE THERAPY

Sealants

A sealant is a plastic material that is usually applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. This plastic resin bonds on to the retentive depressions and grooves (pits and fissures) of the chewing surfaces and eliminates the chance of getting decayed. The sealant also acts as a barrier, protecting enamel from plaque and acids. We recommend sealants for the permanent molars and premolars as soon as they fully erupt to help protecting the teeth from decay.

Fluoride Therapy

Extensive research has shown that optimal levels of fluoride not only reduce cavities in children and adults, it also helps repair the early stages of tooth decay even before the decay is visible.

Also, we use a great fluoride varnish that is 80% more effective than the fluoride foam. It is used to help patients stay caries (cavities) free or to prevent recurrent decay around existing fillings or crown margins which prolong the life of your restorations. Varnish can dramatically improve teeth sensitivity due to gum recession and exposed root surfaces.

COSMETIC THERAPY

Tooth Color Fillings (composite/bonding)

Tooth color fillings can restore the natural appearance of your tooth. The preparation of the tooth is limited to removing just the decayed part of the tooth which means less removal of healthy tooth structure. It is more conservative than the silver (amalgam) filling. The tooth color filling material is strong, durable, and can protect your teeth from cracking as they share similar physical properties as the teeth. We use the best bonding and filling materials. The doctor also uses correct techniques that greatly prolong the life of your filling, eliminate sensitivity and prevent leakage and discoloration around the fillings.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and Onlays can be used instead of fillings when the remaining part of the tooth is weak and brittle or too thin to contain a regular filling due to wide and deep decay. Inlays fit into the space remaining after the decay or an old filling is removed. Porcelain or Gold inlays bind onto the tooth and increase the overall strength of the tooth.

An onlay covers most or the entire chewing surface of the tooth and strengthens it so that it won't fracture. The porcelain onlay is more conservative option than a crown. It covers only those parts of the tooth that are weak.

Inlays and Onlays can be used for an individual tooth or to replace a missing tooth.

Implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root replacement. Our office works with the best oral surgeons that can place the titanium implant. We can restore the missing tooth by placing an attachment and a crown and/or a bridge. Dental implants are an ideal option for replacing a missing tooth or teeth without prepping or compromising the adjacent healthy teeth or when there are no adjacent teeth. Also, we can use the implants to support a denture or a partial denture for excellent retention. This can eliminate the embarrassing movements of a poorly retentive denture due to bone loss.

Crowns

Crowns can be made in materials such as all-porcelain, porcelain-fused to gold or full gold (white or yellow gold). The choice depends on the position, condition of the tooth and patient's grinding or clinching habits. Crowns are fabricated to restore the tooth back to its natural look, color, shape and function.

A porcelain crown is made of pure porcelain, ceramic or aesthetic reinforced resins. It is a metal free crown that is recommended anywhere in the mouth especially the front teeth for a natural vital look. We use one of the best porcelain crowns called Lava. Lava crowns are lined with Zirconia on the inside for strength and for natural translucency to look like natural teeth.

Porcelain fused to gold is a crown lined on the inside with gold. We use special crowns lined with 24K yellow gold called Captek crown. Research has proven that pure gold can eliminate the accumulation of bacteria around the crown margins that can cause recurrent decay and gum irritation. It also gives the natural look without the grey metal color that can be seen at the gum line with regular crowns. Lava or Captek crowns are metal-free crowns which are great for patients who have metal allergies. Nickel and Chromium metals are used in regular crowns.

Full gold crowns can be used for posterior molars, heavy grinders and in certain cases.

Bridge

Natural looking fixed dental appliance that can replace missing teeth, restore natural contour of your teeth, and preserve the proper bite relationship between upper and lower teeth. Bridges consist of 2 crowns at the side carrying the artificial missing tooth or teeth in between.

Endodontic Therapy (Root Canal Treatment)

Treatment option used to save a badly decayed or infected tooth from an extraction. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and infected or dead tissue is removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed to prepare it to get a final restoration.
