What causes snoring?

Snoring is caused by obstructions in the airway during sleep. In many cases, snoring is caused by your tongue rolling back in your mouth or by tissues in your airway. Snoring can cause a significant amount of irritation to your partner and can also result in less restful sleep for you, the snorer. Chronic loud snoring may also be a symptom of a more serious sleep condition known as sleep apnea. If you snore, we encourage you to contact us at White Pearl Dentistry to ensure you receive proper care.

What is snoring treatment?

To minimize snoring, Dr. Nadia Hamouda, our skilled dentist, may recommend a custom-made snoring prevention device. Your snoring appliance will be thin, flexible, and comfortable to allow you to sleep peacefully. The snore appliance works by preventing the jaw and tongue from dropping back and obstructing your airway. We offer two types of oral appliances to treat snoring in Ann Arbor, Michigan: the Silent Nite® and the Myerson SleepBetter devices. These oral devices have been shown to successfully prevent snoring while allowing normal oral breathing. In some cases, these oral devices can also be used to treat minor cases of obstructive sleep apnea. For more information on snoring treatment, we welcome you to contact our friendly office today.
