How often should I visit the dentist for a check-up?

This varies based on your dental health, oral hygiene, and even genetics. We recommend everyone come in for a routine check-up and cleaning at least every 6 months. However, those with periodontal disease should be scheduling for their maintenance cleanings every 3 to 4 months, or as recommended by their hygienist. Pregnancy, diabetes, and other health conditions can also affect your dental needs. This is something the hygienist and Dr Nadia can discuss with you at your visits, so we can set up the best plan for you!

What can I expect during a routine dental examination?

During your routine exam, Dr Nadia will check tissue and gum health, look at the tongue, cheeks, and neck. She also does a visual cancer screening, along with looking for any decay, and signs of stress/trauma on the teeth. The hygienist will measure periodontal (gum) pockets, and discuss brushing habits and oral hygiene. We also address any concerns you may have, along with discussing future treatment you may need.

What are the signs and symptoms of gum disease?

Some signs and symptoms of periodontal gum disease are bad breath, swelling in the gum, bleeding when brushing/flossing, bad taste that doesn’t go away, or loose teeth. It’s important to visit your dentist and hygienist regularly to monitor this.

How can I maintain good oral hygiene at home?

The easiest and most effective way to maintain good oral hygiene is brushing twice a day, for at least two minutes, and flossing at least once a day. Mouthwash can also be beneficial.

Is it normal for my gums to bleed when I brush or floss?

It’s not unusual for gums to bleed, but it can, in some cases, be a sign of bad oral hygiene or gum disease.

What are the available options for teeth whitening?

Please feel free to contact us for more information regarding whitening.

How often should I replace my toothbrush?

Can I get braces as an adult?

Yes! You can get traditional braces (with brackets and wires) at any age. However, now there are many invisible aligner options, one of the most common being Invisalign, which we offer here.

Are there any alternatives to metal braces?

Yes! Invisalign is just one of the several alternatives to metal braces. Invisalign, along with other clear aligner options, utilize a set of clear trays to gradually move teeth as needed. They are discreet, removable, and effective. Let us know if you are interested in scheduling a consultation to discuss your options.
